I think your best bet is to call your local GE PLC rep and ask them how to go about it. I am pretty sure there is an adapter available for this purpose.

However, I don't know about converting the software. You may be in for a lot of effort on that side. It might run out to be a better idea to just replace the I/O as well. Some of that stuff is 20+ years old. If you are going to engage in a mad scramble to replace the CPU some weekend, might as well replace the I/O at the same time and not have to scramble to do so some time down the road. That would give you some spares for other systems, and with stuff this old, that might be a worthwhile thing in itself.

 

Check with your GE IP rep or distributor, there used to be an adaptor to use a GE 90-70, however even the 90-70 is soon to be obsolete except for certain parts.
