pump operating point

I understand flow is proportional the square root of the differential pressure. I am trying to get an overall understanding of adjusting margin for an operating point of a pump. If my pump minimum operating condition is 150 psid at 3000 gpm and my pump is performing at 152 psid at 3000 gpm. I want to gain 5 more psid margin on this system with the new minimum psid of 145 at 3000 gpm. Would it be correct to say I am reducing the minimum pump curve by approximately 3%?

Yes... there is a very timely article on the subject in the Dec 2010 issue (Vol, No 12) of "Maintenance Technology" magazine.

Authored byJane Alexander (Editor of Magazine) with John Schukander (TAS Online Ltd, S. Africa) titled "Making A Business Case for Pump Improvement!" The magazine's web-site is www.MT-online.com
