Remote RTD-Extend RTD to transmitter

Dear All,
We purchased an TT and remote RTD with its terminal box. distance is about 1.5 meter. could we use the general cable to connect RTD to transmitter, or shall use a special extention cable for this?
Thank you
Omid

Copper works ok for RTD, it makes sense however, to use at least 3, or better 4 wire RTDs to compensate for the resistance in the cable. If you want to be 100% sure and you must use a 2 wire RTD: make sure the cables have least resistance possible (so use thick cables) to prevent extra measurement of temperature because of resistance in the cable itself. Remember that a RTD measures temperature with the resistance varying on temperature.
A 3 or 4 wire RTD has extra measurement line/lines for compensating the resistance in the cabling.

Hi,
If your TT allows for 2, 3 and 4 wire RTDs, it should be configured according to the number of wires you decide to use (your TT does not work the same way depending on the number of wires used).
With two 0.5 mm2 copper wires, 1.5 m long, your RTD resistance will be overestimated by 0.1 ohm approximately, and temperature will be overstimated by approximately 0.25 °C if using a Pt100 RTD. Some TTs can compensate for that kind of error.
If you use 3 wires, the 3 wires should have the same resistance.
Both for 2 wires and 3 wires, terminals should be thoroughly tightened, and any corrosion should be avoided.
