The Pros and Cons of RTDs and Thermocouples
Temperature is the most measured process variable in industrial automation and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) and thermocouples are the most used temperature sensors.
Each sensor has strengths and weaknesses that must be carefully matched to the application at hand. The June 2000 issue of Instruments & Control Systems features an article by Jim Pinto, Action Instruments with a discussion of the pros and cons of each type of sensor.
