I am fairly sure that there is legal requiredment to have completed a full risk assessmeent of plants to determine the SIL level of all process and expecially process safety instrument system fucntions. However, although I am aware of IEC61508 and IEC61511 as applicable to my industrial sector, I'm not sure hat the legaly enforcable position is with these.
I would be gratefull of any clear advice form experts in the field here!
