Banner Adds Current Monitoring to Its Snap Signal Sensor Lineup

Monitor single- and three-phase AC loads with Banner’s S15C sensors, featuring split-core installation, RMS readings, thresholds, IO-Link, and Modbus.

Banner Engineering is expanding its Snap Signal condition-monitoring lineup with the S15C-CT and S15C-3CT current transformer converters. Designed for single- and three-phase AC loads, the sensors provide RMS current measurements and configurable thresholds to help maintenance teams identify changes in machine conditions. Split-core transformers allow the devices to be installed around existing conductors without major wiring changes, while IO-Link and Modbus connectivity makes current data available to PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and other monitoring platforms.

The S15C-CT is designed for individual conductors, while the S15C-3CT monitors all three lines feeding a three-phase load. Both use split-core current transformers that install around existing conductors, allowing current monitoring to be added without disconnecting or rerouting the power wiring. Models are available for 20 A, 150 A, and 600 A measurement ranges.

 

S15C-CT Monitors Individual Loads

The S15C-CT is intended for monitoring current on a single AC conductor. As equipment load changes, the converter provides RMS current measurements that can be trended over time or compared against configured thresholds. Changes in current can indicate conditions such as increased machine loading, loss of load, overcurrent, or other operating changes that maintenance personnel may want to investigate.

Each S15C-Ct model comes with a split-core current transformer matched to its measurement range. IO-Link versions operate from 18 to 30 VDC, while Modbus models cover 10 to 30 VDC. The S15C0 CT will also come with M12 quick-disconnect connections to simplify integration with existing equipment, and IP65, IP67, and IP68 ratings allow the converters to operate in more exposed industrial environments. The devices are specified for temperatures from -40 °C to +70 °C.

The S15C-CT family includes:

  • 20 A models: For lower-current machine loads.
  • 150 A models: Intended for larger motors and industrial equipment while retaining the same split-core installation.
  • 600 A models: Extend the same monitoring approach to higher-current loads and power equipment.

Because the transformer clamps around the conductor, the S15C-CT can also be added to existing equipment without making major changes to the power circuit.

 

S15C-3CT Adds Three-Phase Monitoring

For three-phase equipment, the S15C-3CT uses three matched split-core transformers to measure the individual conductors feeding the load. This gives maintenance teams RMS current readings for each line rather than a single overall measurement.

The additional measurements allow current across the three phases to be compared for imbalance. Configurable high- and low-current thresholds can also flag overcurrent, undercurrent, loss-of-load, and abnormal operating conditions. This makes the device particularly useful for motors and other production equipment where changes in electrical load can provide an early indication of a developing problem.

Like the single-phase models, the S15C-3CT is available in three measurement ranges:

  • 20 A models: for lower-current three-phase equipment.
  • 150 A models: Midrange monitoring for motors and production machinery.
  • 600 A models: Three-phase monitoring for larger industrial loads.

IO-Link versions operate from 18 to 30 VDC and Modbus versions from 10 to 30 VDC. The S15C-3CT also uses M12 connectivity, operates from -40 °C to +70 °C, and carries IP65, IP67, and IP68 ratings for industrial installations.

The current data can also be combined with other condition-monitoring information. Banner, for example, shows the S15C-3CT used alongside its QM30VT3 vibration and temperature sensor, allowing changes in electrical load to be compared with vibration, temperature, and mechanical-condition data.

Banner’s S15C-CT and S15C-3CT converters make it easier to add AC monitoring to existing equipment. The S15C-CT handles individual loads, while the S15C-3CT monitors all three lines of a three-phase system. Split-core current transformers simplify installation, and IO-Link or Modbus options make it straightforward to bring current readings and threshold data into existing control and maintenance systems.
