Banner Engineering Adds Two New Series to Radar Sensor Offerings

June 18, 2024 by Joshua Tidwell

The K50R and Q90 R series of radar sensors bring versatility and cost-effectiveness to object detection across applications. Both series are designed to be superior alternatives to ultrasonic sensors.

Banner Engineering has added two new series of radar sensors to its offerings: the K50R and the Q90R. The K50R series is focused on providing users with economical short- and long-range sensing, while the Q90R series is designed to deliver high-power versatility.

K50R Series Radar Sensors

The K50R radar sensor series is designed to offer superior sensing capabilities to traditional ultrasonic sensors. This series of sensors is suitable for short- and long-range sensing, with a sensing distance of 50 mm to 5 m. The K50R can be purchased as either a 40 x 30-degree model to match ultrasonic sensor performance or an 80 x 60-degree model for a broader detection range.

Cost-effective and Consistent Sensing

Banner Engineering has developed the K50R for reliable detection and measurement across various indoor and outdoor applications. These K50R sensors were designed to withstand harsh conditions and have an IP67 rating. They are resistant to weather conditions such as rain, snow, fog, steam, and sunlight. The sensors also have base and flush mount models, giving machine builders the freedom to mount the sensor to fit a wide range of applications.

Setting up and troubleshooting the K50R radar sensor is made simple, thanks to Banner's free measurement sensor software. The sensors also have dual discrete or analog outputs, making integrating them into control systems simple. The K50R Pro model is equipped with a programmable LED for visual communication of the sensor's status.

Q90R Series Radar Sensors

The Q90R radar sensor series is designed to provide large detection coverage with a large vertical and horizontal window. The detection window covers 120 x 40 degrees and can detect objects up to 20 m away. This sensor was built for harsh conditions and has a powder-coated aluminum housing that keeps dust and liquids out. It has an IP67 and IP69K rating, making it suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Multidimensional Sensing

The Q90R2 sensor offers enhanced capabilities compared to standard sensors. It features a configurable field of view, which enables more precise positioning and control. The sensor can measure and detect different objects within its field of view. When used with Banner's measurement sensor software, machine builders can adjust the sensor's window shape, set target points, and receive feedback on radial distance, angular distance, or target velocity.

As with the K50R, the Q90R family of sensors is made simple to set up and troubleshoot, thanks to Banner's measurement sensor software. The Q90R, however, comes with the added benefit of simple configuration thanks to Pulse Pro I/O output, which enables immediate feedback or device output statuses. Thanks to I/O Link communication, the Q90R can also be quickly configured.
