ROD 300/500 Laser Scanners

Leuze has introduced the ROD 300/500 laser scanner series equipped with LiDAR technology. The ROD 300 series laser scanners are engineered for contour measurement tasks while the ROD 500 series is designed for AGV navigation.

Each laser scanner features a robust design crafted with aluminum and an IP67 protection rating. With a compact size of 79 mm x 85 mm x 80 mm, these scanners can fit into even the most confined spaces, whether in tight enclosures, automation cells, or small AGVs operating in tight lanes.

Precision remains a key demand in all industrial applications, and the ROD 300/500 laser scanner series fulfills this requirement. With a high angular resolution of 0.025°, the scanners can take detailed and precise measurements.

Leuze has also added integrated window monitoring to prevent downtime, allowing for predictive maintenance. This proactive feature enables operators to detect soiling and clutter in real time, ensuring high system availability.

Contour Measurement and Object Detection

The ROD 300 series laser scanners can be used to measure the contours of pallets during both storage and retrieval processes in a logistics center. This can be done by mounting two scanners above the conveyor. The sensors will then deliver consistent and stable measurements regardless of variable loading conditions or different surface characteristics, such as whether the goods are high-gloss or matte. This reliability enables smooth and efficient logistics operations, ensuring that subsequent processes can be carried out without interruption or errors related to inaccurate measurements of pallet sizes.

AGV Navigation

Regarding AGV navigation, the ROD 500 series laser scanners are designed for safe and efficient transportation of materials within expansive warehouse environments. Their high-resolution capabilities of 0.025° enable precise mapping of surroundings, which is critical for creating effective internal digital maps as AGVs navigate through various pathways. During ongoing logistics operations, these scanners play an essential role in enabling the natural navigation of AGVs, helping them avoid collisions and execute their tasks safely, resulting in significantly enhanced operational safety and overall effectiveness.

Precision Sensing

Over the past few decades, area scanners have increased in popularity by negating the need for enclosed automation systems, giving operators and integrators more freedom. With the ROD 300/500 laser scanner series, Leuze has given machine builders a new choice for a powerful resource in manufacturing automation and logistic processes in industrial environments.
