Communication between PIC and PC
You will need to program both the PC and the PIC to talk via USB. On the PIC end, Microchip offers some PIC libraries (free), so you won't have to write them from scratch. http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcplg?IdcService=SS_GET_PAGE&nodeId=2680&dDocName=en537044 On the PC end, if...

Modbus Slave Simulator
Nishith, Simply Modbus offers a Modbus Slave Simulator. Here is a link to their website: http://www.simplymodbus.ca/RTUslave.htm I have never used their slave simulator, but I have used their Modbus master (and client) simulators, and they work quite well.

Modbus/NTP Interface
There is no practical limit to the number or protocols that can be sent via a single Ethernet port. Some Modbus slave devices feature a Modbus/TCP server, an HTTP Web server, an FTP server, and a Telnet server -- all running thru one Ethernet port. The protocols are separated and...

Water/Gas Meter with Modbus/LonTalk/BACnet Compatibility
Hello Steve, For your application, I recommend using a Sensus (or Sensus-compatible) water meter and a Sensus gas meter, both of which communicate their readings using an industry-standard meter protocol. Then, to link them via Modbus, my company manufactures a device -- the 'EtherMeter'...

Modbus/NTP Interface
gc05, NTP, as far as I know, is a network protocol for time-synchronization --- in other words, for setting the clock/calendar of each computer on a network. While some SCADA systems undoubtedly use NTP to synchronize the clocks of all RTU's and PLC's, I'm not familiar with any SCADA...

For your application, I recommend using a Sensus water meter and a Sensus gas meter, both of which communicate their readings using an industry-standard meter protocol. And my company manufactures a device -- the 'EtherMeter' (see ethermeter.com) -- which can translate one or two meter...

Licensed-FREQ Ethernet Radio
One other thing... The MDS SD9 is, I believe, backwards-compatible with the 9710's that you are currently using.

Licensed-FREQ Ethernet Radio
I have experience with the GE/MDS SD9, and it does exactly what you are asking for. IP over licensed 900Mhz band. A very well-made piece of equipment. I also have experience with Calamp's Viper-900, but frankly I found it to be very buggy and unreliable. I'd go with the GE/MDS SD9.

Modbus Data Logger
Glad that my solution was helpful, Vaneeth. My snooper program was written in C and compiled in VC++ 6.0 I uploaded the code and posted a link and a little more detail in my blog: http://scadametrics.com/blog/?page_id=10

Report by Exception in Modicom PLCs?
Mcafone, This doesn't really answer your question, but FWIW... If your AB processors and RsLinx support it, there is a newer DF1 protocol called DF1-Radio Modem, which should use less network bandwidth than DF1-Half Duplex. It eliminates the ACK/NAK transmissions, and may provide additional...

Modbus Data Logger
Vaneeth, I did something like this once, but with a twist that may make your job easier. In my case, I had a master and slave PLC device connected via RS-232 serial cable. But I used my two serial ports as "snoopers" only. I cut open the RS-232 cable and used alligator clips to "snoop"...

Ovation Serial Interface to Control Logix
Ann, I have no specific experience with the problem as stated, but I suspect that the connection between the ControlLogix and Emerson DCS could be made. Does the Ovation DCS support Allen Bradley's DF1 serial protocol? According to this sheet, it seems to...

Connectivity from RSLogix on USB
CY, I've found that some USB-Serial adapters can't handle parity = odd or parity = even. They pretty much want 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. If those aren't your settings, then you will likely have problems. Hope this helps! Jim.

Modbus TCP/IP device via RS232
I don't know about a software solution, but I have experience using the Digi One IAP, which constitutes a hardware solution. The DOIAP performs protocol conversions between several industrial protocols, as well as serial-to-ethernet and ethernet-to-serial. This would give you the added...

engg_ice, Is your application connecting an S7 with an AB drive? What protocol(s) does the Siemens S7 CP443-1 support? Is it strictly Modbus/TCP? And how about the AB 20-COMM-E module? Is it strictly EtherNet/IP? If those are your protocol options for each, then you would need a...
