Connectivity from RSLogix on USB

Trying to get connectivity from RSLogix to PC through RSLinx with an SLC 5/04. I have had to switch computers do to mother board failure. We had to go to a new Dell PC with USB only and no 25 pin port for the connectivity with the SLC 5/04 on our conveyor.

I have tried to use a USB to serial cable connecting with RSLinx autoconfig. I had no luck with this as the autoconfig error out and ask me to double check cables. I then tried a 1747-cp3 usb to 9 pin adapter hooked directly to the SLC 5/04 did the autoconfig and got the same error. I then switched to 9300-USBS and had same results. I have double checked the ports and they are reading correctly and also installed the drivers for both cables. I have been told to switch to a SLC 5/05 but I am wary of this trial and error I have been doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have used the USB cable from RA very successfully.. use a null modem cable and all is well!!:)

A) 25-pin? I haven't seen a 25-pin serial port in a LONG time. Most are 9-pin. But yeah, even 9-pin is getting rare.

B) Some USB to serial adapters work, some don't. (Later you say you're using the A-B one, which of course should work.)

C) "I then tried a 1747-cp3 usb to 9 pin adapter..." Huh? I thought the CP3 was just the null modem cable, not a USB to RS-232

D) "I then switched to 9300-USBS..." THAT's the USB to serial adapter, right? So it plugs in USB, and then the CP3 plugs from it to the SLC.

E) Before you do autoconnect, you have to select the driver, namely "RS-232 DF1 Device." If you picked something else, change it and you should be fine. If the port on the SLC isn't set to DF1, you're fried. The 9300-USBS doesn't support DH-485.

I've found that some USB-Serial adapters can't handle parity = odd or parity = even.

They pretty much want 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity. If those aren't your settings, then you will likely have problems.
