With old compressors like that, the bearings get warn, and would not start only to blow the breaker and shutdown. Recognizing the motor/compressor was 20+ years old, after checking for shorts, the tech put in a larger starting capacitor and it ran. He mentioned, that we really needed a new...

Should I upgrade my hot water heatpump controller
If used for temperature control of you living space, you need an updated controller suitable for your unit. The conventional thermostats are on-off for preselected heat or cooling only. But, as your intro refers to water heating, you need to sort out what you want the unit to accomplish.

Repeated Capacitor Failure on Single-Phase Pump Connected to Pressure Controller (230V)
The capacitor is supposed to disconnect (RPM Switch) after starting pump. Check your pressure controller too.

RTD's are typically insulated from ground, so the cable wiring to the RTD including the shielding must be referenced to the DCS ground not a ground connection in the field.
