Hot loop check of proximity sensor on site
The story keeps changing. Please work with the suppliers to get their help with [whatever] the issue(s) [is/are]. It seems to be some kind of cobbled together system that may or may not work well together. And with this newest partial piece of information (... one of the measuring point of...

How calculate combustion spread
ControlEng999, I don’t have access to Mark VI/VIe application code at this writing. Have you looked at the Item- or Block Help to see how TTXSPL is calculated in the TTXSPV4 block in the application code in the turbine at your site? Can you post a screenshot of the TTXSPL calculation portion...

How calculate combustion spread
ControlEng999, Please try explaining the issue you are having with TTXSPL. Is this happening right after a maintenance outage, or after a trip from load? What's going on? What fuel is the unit burning? If the unit is dual fuel (gas/distillate) have you tried running on the other fuel? If so...

How calculate combustion spread
ControlEng999, The topic of combustion monitoring has been discussed many times before on Control.com, and past threads can be found using the Search feature of Control.com. Also, there is a list of 'Similar Threads' at the bottom of every thread which can be very helpful, too. To begin your...

aras.ali, Thanks for your responses and updates; it's very helpful for those contributing to the thread AND to those following it (now and later!). We look forward to hearing what is learned about the carbon-like particles from the analysis.

RTD PT100 BEARING TEMPERATURE READING NOT STABLE
Siraj, Thank you for your responses and feedback; it's much appreciated by all who are contributing to this thread and all who are following it. That's a phenomenom I haven't run into before--though I guess it could happen if you connected the 4th conductor with the signal leg or the...

Turbine Ge frame 5 can't end startup sequence
Taki27, I would really need to see the CSP running in the Mark V to see what's happening. I see TTXM is less than TTRX, so that's not the problem. You said you calibrated SRV- and GCV- and IGV LVDTs; what about the 2nd Stage Nozzle LVDTs? I can't recall if acceleration control is used for the...

liquid fuel nozzle purge air check valve
The heated liquid fuel is ... interesting. If you found carbon-like particles in the failed check valves, it would be a very good idea to send those particles out to be analyzed to determine where they came from: fuel or ??? When running on liquid fuel there IS liquid fuel in the purge check...

liquid fuel nozzle purge air check valve
One more thing, it's interesting the liquid fuel check valves are water-cooled, but the purge check valves are not.... Aren't they in the same turbine compartment--meaning don't they experience the same temperatures in the turbine compartment? Is the liquid fuel heated?

Turbine Ge frame 5 can't end startup sequence
Do you have the before and after LVDT calibration values (0%- and 100% values for all LVDTS--BEFORE and AFTER calibration)? You say, now, they replaced the fuel nozzles.... What was the source of the fuel nozzles? Were they refurbished nozzles? New nozzles? Were they sent out and refurbished...

liquid fuel nozzle purge air check valve
Aren't the liquid fuel purge "control" valves three-way valves--WITH limit switches to indicate position? The "cone" strainers (witches' hat strainers) don't have dp switches or gauges; they could be plugged (choked).... AND, if GE Belfort installed dp transmitters and/or gauges on the system...

Hot loop check of proximity sensor on site
If one wants to observe to understand how the B-N proximity sensor output varies with proximity, you need a wobulator. They can be rented or purchased, or you can have someone with a wobulator visit site and help with the checkout. You could use an oscilloscope to look at the waveform, and a...

RTD PT100 BEARING TEMPERATURE READING NOT STABLE
Siraj, If you are using four-wire plus a drain shielded cables but the RTDs are only three-wire RTDs, then you need to do something with the fourth, unused wire of the cable to prevent any noise it "absorbs" from affecting the three wires with the RTD signals on them. There are a couple of...

liquid fuel nozzle purge air check valve
aras.ali, Well, the packager is, indeed, GE Belfort. So, one question answered. And, WOW!!! Water-cooled liquid fuel check valves IN ADDITION to purge air cooling!!! Must be a pipefitters'/mechanics' nightmare working on that unit's turbine!!! You were given some ideas for temporarily...

Grid frequency unstable - potential problems?
gubavac111, Thanks for writing back to let us know your status. We can probably answer some of the more basic questions you may have about islanded system operation without a PMS (which may help you in trying to understand how the PMS on the yacht works), but there's probably not a lot more we...

Turbine Ge frame 5 can't end startup sequence
Taki27, What turbine control system is being used to control and protect the turbine? What fuel is being used after the shutdown? (Is it the same fuel as before the shutdown?) If it is gas fuel, did someone "calibrate" the gas fuel valves before, during or after the outage? Were the fuel...

RTD PT100 BEARING TEMPERATURE READING NOT STABLE
Siraj, First of all, connecting the drain wire (the uninsulated wire in the Belden cable) to ground at both ends is completely incorrect and will only make matters worse. The idea of the drain wire (which is in contact with the foil shield of the cable) is to provide a SINGLE path to ground for...

liquid fuel nozzle purge air check valve
Yes, the P&ID for the purge and cooling water systems would be very necessary to understand what might be happening. Over the decades, the check valves GE has used for the liquid fuel, liquid fuel purge and water injection purge systems have been problematic. Especially the poppet-style check...
