GE Frame 7EA number 1 bearing thermocouples secret
A picture can be worth a thousand words. (Maybe even two thousand of CSA's words!!!) I m only familiar with the gland seal which used rubber corks which were compressed with the outer fitting and no one ever seemed to be able to make seal after reassembly. But, I've never seen one with ceramic...

GE Frame turbines Over Speed Testing
MIKEVI, You have touched on the primary reason for tripping gas turbines during shutdown: It fully tests the ability of the control system (and fuel delivery system) to shut off the flow of fuel when an overspeed condition is detected. Which is what the overspeed test is really designed to...

DLN Tuning gas turbines
MBA, If the unit is transferring to Premix Steady State and the only thing that happens is flame is detected again in the primary combustion zone then it's highly likely that there is some kind of ignition source--other than the spark plugs--in the primary combustion zone. Impurities in the gas...

DLN Tuning gas turbines
MBA, Does the unit have IBH (Inlet Bleed Heating)? Is it in operation when it has trouble getting into and remaining in Premix Steady State? What is the grid frequency--in other words, how stable is it when operating the unit and trying to get into and remain in Premix Steady State? What are...

Recommended method of parallel operation of Gen sets after Islanding
rafaelle.fiorella76, You really have not provided anything in the way of useful information to be of any help. How long has this problem been occurring? Since commissioning? Recently started? What are the types of gen-sets are you alluding to? What are the prime movers of each generator...

How calculate combustion spread
ControlEng999, Here's some pictures which might help with understanding summing junctions--from your TTXSPV4 block question: If you wish, you may consider associating the operation symbols ("+" and "-") with the input by finding a symbol and then look in an anti-clockwise fashion to the...

How calculate combustion spread
CSP, Control Sequence Program, refers to the program used to configure a Mark V turbine control panel to control and protect a unit and its auxiliaries. With Mark VI and Mark VIe, GE decided to call the program 'application code.' It's the same thing--programming to make the control panel...

ControlEng999, From post #23: “...The signal to the right of a vertical line entering the summing junction from above indicates if the signal should be added or subtracted in the summing junction. The signal above a horizontal line going into the left of a summing junction indicates if the...

How calculate combustion spread
The CLAMP block has MIN and MAX limits. The output of the block will be equal to the input IF the input value is neither greater than the MAX limit value nor less than the MIN limit value. If the input value is greater than the MAX limit value, then the output of the block will be equal to the...

Soooo, here's an interpretation of the formula, in a pictorial format: [CORRECTION: The output of the lower CLAMP block was shown with the incorrect value on original posting; it has been corrected to 38 deg C (the MIN limit of the CLAMP block). Sorry for any confusion!!!] For the...

Grid frequency unstable - potential problems?
ControlsGuy25, There is a suspicion this problem has been going on for a while--if only because the original poster said that a tech had made some adjustments "deep inside" the inverter (I think it was the inverter) to try to limit the issues they were having because of poor frequency control...

How calculate combustion spread
No; the calculation works with "all" values. It's whether or not the values are correct for the application, and that will determine how spreads are detected and what happens when they are detected. And, all Control Constants are not always the same for every Frame size GE-design heavy duty gas...

Grid frequency unstable - potential problems?
ControlsGuy25, I think two things are going on here. First, the yacht is in drydock and gubavac111 is quite busy. Being in drydock also means the yacht is connected to shore power only, so the diesel gensets are not being used, AND he has said they are undergoing maintenance (probably changing...

ControlEng999, The squares with 'X' in them are Multiplication blocks. In the uppermost red circle, the Control Constant TTXSP1 would be multiplied by ttxspl_z1 (the multiplicand is connected to the top of the Multiplication block, and the multiplier is connected to the left side of the...

Glenmorangie, With 45+ years of experience you must know that the subject of exhaust temperature spread calculation is a herd of horses that just won't die--no matter how long they are beaten and tortured. They don't even expire due to old age. This thread IS about how to calculate exhaust...

Turbine Ge frame 5 can't end startup sequence

How calculate combustion spread
What part of “I (CSA) have never been successful in reliably calculating TTXSPL to match the value on the display” is so difficult to understand? And, what is the concern about first fire on gas fuel that is driving this need to be able to calculate TTXSPL? As long as the gas fuel piping from...

How to calculate a Diesel Prime mover capacity when a driven Generator rated output power is known
In general, if the Diesel engine and generator were packaged and supplied by one company the Diesel engine rating is less than that of the generator. Otherwise, the Diesel engine governor would have to limit the diesel engine’s power output in order to prevent the generator from being damaged...

Turbine Ge frame 5 can't end startup sequence
ControlsGuy25, No; fuel control is for LP--because the LP drives the load (the centrifugal compressor). Nozzle control is for HP. The HP is the hot gas generator for the LP (personally I think of it as the "secondary" shaft and control once the LP is in it's operating speed range). There is...
