Generator Hydrogen Cooling System
While CSA's practicality of use is right-on, I believe the top two characteristics, after economy, are the vaporization factor, and the ease of cleansing H2 of the purge-gas, if required. Phil Corso

CT saturation when starting an induction motor
Chazree... the fact that starting-current exceeds a CT’s nominal rating has no deleterious impact on the CT! However, this statement presumes: 1) The selected CT-ratio conforms to the motor’s nameplate NEMA Design Code Letter (Inrush-kVA/Hp ratio.) 2) The starting-time (breakaway to rated...

Generator Field
I will gladly provide on-forum answers to questions asked off-forum, about supplying an alternator's field-winding with AC excitation, rather than DC! I only ask that a reader, not encumbered with a PtP's mind-set, have the fortitude to ask, here on-forum! Regards, Phil Corso...

Generator Field
I was recently conacted off-forum with two questions related to this thread: 1) What is the alternator's output waveform equation? 2) What would the alternator's waveform be if the AC field frequency and alternator's rpm were equal? If anyone is interested in my reply, contact me off...

Tilting pad bearing damage
Mani... please bear with me, but I want to be sure we understand each other! Therefore, I am taking a few steps at a time! Q1) What was the duration (in weeks) from startup to the 1st failure? Q2) Do you have pictures of the failure(s)? Q3) Has a metallurgical analysis been made...

GT Frame 5 Load Gear
FAM... while the ground-fault may have triggered the event which resulted in damage to the load-gear. I wouldn't say it was the the root cause. More likely, it was mal-operation of the unit's protective relaying Can you provide details relative to the relaying, such as hardware or software...

4 pole generator rotor failure due to high vibration
GDD.... the intro to your post discussed lead failure. If they are stator-winding terminating leads, then either they are improperly supported to resist movement or flexing, or wire size is too small. If they are connecting field-coils of a salient-pole machine, then inspect for pole...

The Physics of... Synchronizing Alternators
Sunil... I don't want to turn this thread into brouhaha, but synchronizing-power between alternators is essential. Even for multi-machine mega-systems. And, some believe lack of it could be responsible for inter-areas oscillations that have recently appeared… especially when large wind-farms...

The Physics of... Synchronizing Alternators
Sunil... why do you insist on introducing a mechanical version of the operation of an electrical generator, and a 'load' in your explanation I suggest re-read the 1st paragraph of the original post. It includes the definition of 'polarity'. Phil Corso

The Physics of... Synchronizing Alternators
Sunil... your post to this thread proves you are a true contributor to this forum. Responding to your comments: 1) If you notice, I talked about two un-loaded alternators! Load-currnt does not enter into discussion. 2) You have confused 'polarity' with 'phase'! 3) If the two...
