I have an application, where i have to sense presence/absence of labels on transparent ampoules.

The labels are white colored, while ampoules are also filled with white material. I have tried various sensors, but in vain. Could you please help?

Could be a good application for some of the lower end vision systems. Suggest you talk to some of the vision system vendors, although most of the sensor folks these days seem to be coming out with products that are narrowing the gap between these previously distinct technologies. Most will come by and do tests or lend you a device to try before you buy.

Good luck

Dear Gerald Beaudoin,

Thanks for the advice. Vision systems would surely work. But the price difference is very high as compared to sensors. Can u suggest a cheap vision system & its price?

Sensors cost in the range of some 50 to 100 US dollars.

We have used some of the Cognex products with success. They have a low end "Checker" product which can have some pretty impressive performance at about $1K or so, depending on the resolution you need. I know some of the other sensor folks like Keyance, have similar products. This is not meant to be a product endorsement, but just to give you a starting point. The technology is advancing so rapidly and the number of players seems to be increasing. Good luck.

Has this label a barcode or something like that? (datamatrix, 2d barcode...) If yes, a good solution is to read it. I know several applications working well with this system. The information in the barcode is not relevant, only the "good read" feedback from the barcode reader. This means that the label is in place.

No, the label actually has some data printed on it regarding the chemicals used. But barcode isn't there..

Certainly not $100 solutions....but you could also consider character recognition systems to read the label.
