Mark V can't reset
jpmccros, Whenever a contact is put into the hardwired trip "string" it is SUPPOSED to have an associated contact which is also wired to a discrete (contact) input of the Mark V to alert the operator the cause of the trip string being tripped. Unfortunately, this practice isn't always adhered...

Combustion Trouble GE Frame 6B GT.
Sear saber, If you have been running the unit with this problem since you originally posted the question (and, likely for some time before the question was posted) you are damaging the hot gas path components. No matter what the cause of the problem is the combustion liners, fuel nozzles, and...

Gas Turbine Air Flow
REI, The question was how does your company use the air flow calculation, if at all. Is it just used by the Speedtronic for its purposes, or does your company use the value for any other purpose? What you have described is GE's typical method of calculating air flow, and many times buyers...

day/time setting in HMI
ESKAY, It seems your site is STILL blaming the GE Mark V HMI for what appear to be MS-Windows issues. You haven't told us if the GE Mark V HMI, and Mark V, uses NTP (Network Time Protocol). This would mean a master time signal "generator" was connected to the HMI (or possibly to the PDH...

Using AutoCalibrate Display to View Parameters
You are welcome. The TCTG card is not configured using the I/O Configurator; so there is no download to that card. The TCEA cards get their software configuration parameters from the associated control processors when the TCEA is re-booted. There is no download directly to those cards...

Synchronisation in Power plant
paein, 1) When an AC (Alternating Current) generator is at or very near rated speed, generator terminal voltage is controlled by varying the excitation applied to the generator's DC field(s). There are many, many types of exciters so it would be extremely difficult to detail all of them...

DWATT alarm
sherif elzoghby > For example if the load is, say, 109 MW, and the corresponding TNR is, say, > 104.9%, that is not typical of a machine with 4% Droop Regulation. The above statement was referring to a typical Frame 9E with a typical Base Load rating of 120 MW, and a droop regulation...

Mark VI IONet N-Tron Network switch failures
VN, Would it be easier, at least for a trial period, to add a fan, or fans, to the turbine control panel to increase the flow of air from the vents at the bottom of the panel through the vents at the top of the panel? As was mentioned previously, if there are filters over the vents at the...

Gas Turbine Air Flow
REI, How does your site use the calculated air flow from the instruments in the inlet? Also, has your site ever verified the accuracy of the air flow measurement (not the individual inputs--but the calculated result of the inputs)? If so, how?

LS2100 static starter command for 9fa
koukos, Your post is unclear. GE has been slowly and steadily reducing the hardware interfaces between GE-provided equipment, to reduce wiring and associated hardware costs (cost reduction is one of the most important engineering efforts at GE). It should be possible to find the static...

Using AutoCalibrate Display to View Parameters
MAATALLAH, AutoCalibrate will not disturb the turbine operation when it is running. AutoCalibrate can communicate with the TCQA card when the turbine is running, but it is prevented from making any changes to TCQA RAM values when the turbine is running. The Mark V WILL annunciate the...

DWATT alarm
sherif elzoghby That's the ONLY alarm I've never completely understood. I think it's primarily used on units with DLN combustors (do the units at your site have DLN combustors?). When I was working for GE I could never find a person who could explain exactly what the alarm was trying to...

Difference between Simple cycle and Combined Cycle
otised, I ALWAYS confuse heat rate and efficiency, forgetting they are the inverse of each other. I should have written that by keeping the IGVs closed longer than normal when the exhaust heat is being used to produce steam the gas turbine heat rate increases slightly (it's slightly less...

Function of Constants
ltw, GE populates CONST_Q.SRC with what they refer to as a "max case" (maximum case) set of Control Constants. This means that the list of Control Constants includes many which may not be used a particular application. So, you may safely presume that as many as 30%, or even more, of the...

Difference between Simple cycle and Combined Cycle
Sadiya, The same gas turbine can be used in either simple cycle- or combined cycle application. In fact, many applications employ something called a "bypass stack and damper" arrangement on the exhaust of the gas turbine, which can direct the gas turbine's exhaust heat into a waste heat...

what happens if turbine rated power is smaller than gen nominal power
I agree Dave Amundson made two very important points about the turbine-generator application. The original question was seemingly a very simple one, but as with most things a complete and proper answer is much more involved, and would require many more questions on the part of the respondents...

Torque converter
mohamad noruzi, No. The use of orifices and/or solenoids have all been considered in the longevity of the equipment during the design of the systems. Torque converters, are by their nature, devices with "slip", and they do wear out. It all really depends on the usage they receive. I've...
