Honeywell Experion PKS Isn't Scanning Fast Enough

We use Honeywell Experion PKS and I setup multiple displays that our operators use depending on which system within our facility they are tasked with monitoring. We also have Modicon PLCs that we feed into the Honeywell system by creating points within Point Builder that have the Modicon PLC as the source address.

In this example, we have a prox sensor mapped to a coil in our Modicon PLC that triggers every time the sensor sees a tooth on a sprocket. This triggers approximately every 0.8sec. When I map that coil to a point in Point Builder, then map that point to a visual indicator on one of the displays that should blink red every time the coil in the PLC triggers. Well as I have it setup now, the point seems to be missing a lot of the triggers. It may catch 1 or 2 back-to-back, then maybe wait anywhere from 15-25sec before trigger again, and this sporadically continues. I've tried adjusting the scan time of the point in Point Builder, but that doesn't seem to help. How can I fix this so it continuously catches every trigger?

You may want to consider what you or your operators are needing to with the information. the scan period showing on the digital status point is one second. the event is every .8 Sec. If the signal is only on for 0.1 second you will likely miss the event. If you have other scada running in your PKS system optimizing scan times can get tricky. multiple scan periods can cause issues. Another consideration is how fast is your hmi configured to update.

for systems where we are trying to capture higher speed events in the PKS we would often have the plc logic handle the fast events. The plc might give a minimum one or two second pulse to the DCS to capture the event. A counter to accumulate the event count is another option. Then you could then scan the analog value and show it or a calculated speed or display a status text of Moving instead of blinking on the event.

just some thoughts. Good luck
