Real-time data collection on Arburg 420C SELOGICA Direct – Intern seeking guidance

Hi everyone,
I'm an intern working on a project to collect real-time production data from our injection molding machine, and I could use some advice.

Machine:
  • Arburg 420 C 1000-290 (March 2019)
  • Clamping force: 100 tonnes
  • Control system: SELOGICA Direct

Goal: Collect process data (temperatures, pressures, cycle times, part count) via a Raspberry Pi 4 already installed on the machine.

Current issues:
  1. Which communication protocol should I use? (OPC UA, RS232/V24 with 3964R, Euromap?)
  2. How do I configure serial communication parameters in SELOGICA Direct?
  3. Any example scripts or libraries for reading Arburg data with Python?

Hardware already in place:
  • Raspberry Pi 4
  • 5V power supply, Ethernet + serial connectors

I'm still learning, so any beginner-friendly guidance, documentation links, or experience shares would be really helpful!

Thanks in advance for your support.

Best regards,
Khelifi
