24VDC Non-Loop supply for loop powered transmitter

Can I feed a 24VDC power supply (non-loop) to a transmitter that is meant for loop-power? I am just doing a stand alone test, no PLC/DCS and I don't need the HART output?

Answer: yes. Whatever you power the loop powered transmitter with, is 'loop power'.

It might be a stand-alone DC power supply. It might be a DC power supply that is part of the analog input module.

The transmitter is the load and it regulates the current in the loop, so the DC power supply is not 'shorted' when connected to the transmitter's (+) and (-) terminals.

Yes, it should work for a bench test. I would still check the transmitter datasheet first, especially the allowed supply voltage, minimum load requirement, and terminal wiring.
