Hi All,

We had a fleet of 6 GE 7FA's across our sites and the first MI is going to be carried out at our site. GE activity is planned for 28 days for each machine.

I will update if any interesting things are there.

Best Regards,
Ravi

A major inspection is primarily a mechanical outage in which the gas turbine (and sometimes the generator if conditions warrant) are disassembled and inspected. Major mechanical and hot gas components are refurbished, replaced or repaired.

Whilst the machine is shut down, very often the operation of control devices (pressure switches and -transmitters, temperature switches, etc.) are confirmed (incorrectly called "calibrations"). Quite often LVDTs are unnecessarily "calibrated".

This is primarily a controls-related site. Should you encounter any controls-related issues we would be happy to discuss them. Issues with nozzles, buckets, liners, IGVs, are generally outside the scope of this forum.

Best of luck with your outage.

Yes. I remember that this is a controls site. The issues with mechanical are relatively easier to deal with and generally does not need anybody's advice. They just need replacement and we have very good support for it.

As you mentioned, most of the problems arise after the outages due to the disturbances of instrumentation which is unavoidable. That's why most of the focus is on how the control system is going to respond after the MI.

We have 5 9FA coming up for MI at the end of this year. Can you please tell me that GE will replace all the liquid fuel 3ay valves and water injection purge valves with new ones? Also the GCVs and IGV actuator?

Thank you.

Dear Ravi,

I work for a company that is an agent for Young & Franklin, manufacturer of gas valves/IGV for GE turbines.

Should you have any need regarding these components, please let me know.

regards.
