I am trying to determine if I should use a solenoid or a coil for a project. I don't want a "shading coil" since I want instant and direct response to the AC voltage. I will be using a voltage from 0-30VAC.

Please help me understand what device would work the best for this application with good sensitivity. Also, what would be a good industrial type amplifier for this voltage range.
