Actuator exploded

Hello,

While maintenance of a pneumatic actuator we removed selonoid and then while we removing the end caps one of them exploded and hit somewhere. We are surprised. What can be the reason for that? It had some pressurized air inside. Last week it had water from the air also and when we checked inside it was corroded.

Any comment?

Hello Biangineer,
there has been no answer yet. Maybe it is already solved, maybe not. A pneumatic actuator is in most case single spring return.
Are you sure that the reason was pressurized air or maybe the springs?

The corrosion can be caused by "breathing" the ambient air via the silencer of the solenoid valve.
