Another Interesting Hardware Platform

Hi All

We may not have to build our own hardware platform. Several likely homes are showing up. Sixnet has one. Here's another one.

I have asked for information and pricing on the I 8000 series. Stay tuned.

This is what they say about the I8000:
Simple to Program The CPU modules of 8000 family is a AMD 80188/80186 series. User can use C language, ISaGRAF IEC61131-3 & standard PC software tools to compiler & link program. It is very similar to PC environment. So the user can develop his application very easy. There are about 100 demo program are provide for various application examples. The software driver for DOS, Linux and Windows are provided for easy development. The DLL/DDE/OCX/OPC drivers are ready for windows 95/98/2000 applications.

Can Windows 95/98/2000 run on a 16 bitter?

There's also the Embedded PC there.
They said it ran Embedded NT or Windows CE or other OS

Yes I noted that after I got all excited. I have asked the gentleman who posted about them on the A-list if there might be a 32 bit version. There is ELKS but I would really rather run on a reasonably capable proc. What I have been doing would be fine with a few adjustments. The mainstream project would not. It's hard to understand why anyone would use an 8018X type chip for a new design. The cost savings couldn't be much over the low end 32bit procs and it doesn't save much complexity either. I guess it's back to tracking down Mille or whoever that builds stuff for SoftPLC tm.

Hi,

[please, people, use proper quoting for your posts. It makes it very difficult to read if you don't.]

I've used the ICP-CON-7000 series for an automation application, you can simply put it on the serial line of your PC. Software was a quick hack in Perl at that time :)

There are rumors around that the realtime performance of the Geode processors (measured on RTAI) is _bad_. I havn't tested that myself so far, but one should be careful.

We are a small company and have built a new CNC with Linux/RTLinux as
operating system. We offer various input/output modules that maybe would fit your needs. We normally do not sell only hardware, as we build complete solutions which inlcudes a lot of software. We have built the CNC because none of the products on the market really fits our needs. Some time ago, I asked myself, why we do not implement PLC functionalty which could run concurrently with our CNC core/application. This would be a good solution for some applications. But I had absolutely no time left... As usual...
Anyway, if someone is interested and has some questions, feel free to ask me. Unfortunately, our homepage ( "http://www.optronic.ch":http://www.optronic.ch ) is only in german and still not in english... BTW, the CPU is a STPC Industrial from ST which is not very fast but
enough for our needs.

Hi Stephan

I for one, am very interested in your Linux CNC. And you are certainly welcome to use our PLC stuff when it's ready. What sort of I/O do
you support. We have some stuff for discretes and modbus but we could always use more.

:)
We have some stuff for discretes and modbus but we could Profibus, SSI for absolute encorders, incremental encoders, digital I/O, analog I/O. We have planned more I/O modules (e.g. higher level I/O interfaces for digital drives, CAN, Interbus, ...) which mainly depends on the needs of our customers. We have developed a simple but efficient I/O subsystem that allows us to design new modules very fast.

Stephan
