Comms between quantum plc and coherent meter

I am trying to communicate with a Coherent power meter (from Labmaster) from a Quantum PLC, can anybody help me? Is it best to use the modbus port (rs232) and an Xmit block or via CM42 or bridgemux? The Coherent meter uses RS232 and a command structure usually found in Qbasic (e.g. pw? a - will request a power reading from detector a).
