Dear Sir,

We have to communicate AB PLC Micrologix-1200 with GE Fanuc PLC PCM Module - IC693CMM321.

We require RS485 communication from Micrologix-1200. Pls. send solution for the same.

If we use PM02 Cable, One sided D type connector shall be connected in Micrologix-1200 & other side shall be connected with ADAM (RS232 to RS485) convertor.

We will use this RS 485. Kindly Reply me on my mail id:

The Micrologix supports Modbus on it's serial port....does the Fanuc unit? If so, that seems the most reasonable way to do so.

The GE Fanuc IC693CMM321 is an Ethernet module. It communicates using GE Fanuc's SRTP protocol OR Modbus TCP/IP. With Modbus TCP/IP it can be both a server and a client. Client requires programming using COMMREQ commands. Server requires no programming. However, as a server, the Modbus map for registers is non-standard. Access this link to download the Technical Manual for the IC693CMM321:

My suggestion would be to use Modbus TCP/IP between the two PLCs.

Based on Mr. Fink's response earlier, you could consider our Omnii-Comm product http://www.miille.com/266-P00-Ethernet.pdf as a solution for a connection between Allen-Bradley PLCs and GE PLCs. We support both Modbus/TCP and Ethernet/IP at the same time. We are a "server" to both protocols. We can be a client for Ethernet/IP communication in some applications. You can contact me at jmiille [at] miille.com for more information.
