A Complete Transport Solution: Omron Launches AMRs With ROEQ Top Modules

March 06, 2024 by Stephanie Leonida

Omron has launched its MD-650 and MD-900 medium-payload AMRs as an out-of-the-box solution with lifter top and top roller modules from ROEQ, offering customers efficient and cost-effective material transportation.

Omron Automation's new medium-payload autonomous mobile robot (AMR) series is now available in the U.S. and Canada. The MD Series of AMRs is available as a complete, integrated solution with AMR equipment specialist, ROEQ, top module solutions.

Lifter Top and Top Roller Modules

AMRs use both lifter top and top roller modules to expand their functionality. Lifter top modules help AMRs pick up and transport products or other objects, including crates, racks, pallets, and shelf carts. With this added functionality, AMRs can lift pallet racks from different heights.

Top roller modules convey products/objects within warehouses, distribution centers, and other industrial facilities. Attaching this type of module to an AMR places a small conveyor belt on its top, which helps load and unload items automatically, whether objects are moving between AMRs, from shelves, or to other conveyor systems.

Using AMRs with top modules can free up human employees' time for more complex duties. This reduces labor costs and potential human error, as well as accelerates procedures. Furthermore, automating material handling decreases workplace accidents and improves overall safety because sensor-equipped AMRs help prevent collisions.

ROEQ’s Top Modules for Omron AMRs

ROEQ's TML500/TML750 Lifter can pick and transport payloads of up to 510 kg with Omron's MD-650 AMR and 760 kg with Omron's MD-900 AMR. ROEQ's solution can also integrate with its PR750 Pallet Rack and optional Cargo Sensor Kit for added control and secure cargo placement.

Like the Lifter, ROEQ’s TR600/TR700 Roller is available as a U.S. and EU model. The roller can take a payload of up to 675 kg and comes with ROEQ’s GuardCom system. GuardCom uses advanced sensor technology to communicate between the roller and receiving unit, facilitating the quick reception of goods and their stable transfer. Front cargo sensors mediate safe and efficient cargo loading, while position sensors ensure that the AMR is in the right place to securely receive and drop off cargo. Rear sensors make certain that cargo is not teetering off the back of the AMR, stopping it from driving if the cargo is not secure.

For both the lifter and roller solution, ROEQ’s Assist Software ensures that each component is linked together (lifter/roller with AMR and the pallet rack/GuardCom), offering a complete automated solution. The idea is to speed up installment and enhance performance, which, in turn, feeds into an enhanced total cost of ownership.

Omron’s MD Series AMRs

Omron’s MD Series of AMRs feature built-in obstacle avoidance, a fast charge time (20 min), a 10-hour run time, a top speed of 2.2 m/sec (MD-650), an integrated PLC and Safety PLC, and 360° of safety-rated sensing. The MD Series AMRs use autonomous navigation and safety systems to select between 128 safety zones depending on payload size and adjust speed and trajectory to optimize the safe passage of materials. With the addition of ROEQ’s top modules, the MD Series offers users a complete, out-of-the-box AMR solution to enhance material transport needs.
