Contrologix - Accessing serial data over ethernet?

I need to connect a remote serial device to a Contrologix system.

Two serial-to-ethernet converters acting as a serial tunnel over an ethernet network is one solution. However, I am wondering if anyone is aware of a alternative requring only one serial-ethernet converter?

To clarify, would it be possible to connect the remote serial device to the converter and then confgure the Contrologix system in some manner to identify & respond to the tcp-encapsulated serial data?

Prosoft makes a 1756-MVIGSC and 1794-MVIGSC modules. These have two serial ports. You could get the data into the processor via one of these and then poll the CPU via ethernet. Or you could send the data via ethernet through an unsolicited message originating in the ControlLogix processor.
