DNP 3.0 protocol

What is a double point indication (DPI) and a single point indication (SPI)?

I'm working in a RTU who has DNP 3.o protocol on it, DNP 3.0 not directly support double point indications (DPI), DNP transmit two consecutive single point indication (SPI), so I'd like a comprehensive explanation of what is called (DPI).
