During normal combined cycle operation, the GE 9FA gas turbine was operating under Remote control via DCS. Despite favorable ambient and process conditions, the unit was not reaching base load. However, when switched to Auto (local) and the base load command was issued directly from the turbine HMI, the unit successfully reached full base load and entered temperature control mode.
Observed Behavior:
In Remote (DCS) mode:
Unit remained in Speed/Load control.
IGVs stayed partially open (~85°).
Firing temperature (TTRX) was below its control reference (TTRF).
MW output plateaued below expected base load (~XYZ MW).
In Auto (Local) mode:
Manual Base Load command was initiated from the HMI.
Unit ramped up FSR and MW output.
IGVs opened fully (~88°).
Firing temp approached the control limit.
Unit entered Temperature Control mode.
Full base load was achieved successfully.
