my generator is designed for 0.8 p.f but if i run the generator for p.f 0.6 to 0.7 continuously then what problem will arises? is this practice good? actually what should i do? please give me proper solution any one?

You keep posting your generator is rated thus and such and what happens if you operate it at some value greater than that and now less than that. But you never say if you're going to be operating the generator with a leading or lagging power factor.

So, please do some research and if you still have questions please ask them here. In your research, understand that power factor is a lot of things; it's a measure of efficiency, it's a measure of "split" between real and reactive power. It's never greater than 1.0, and it can be less than 1.0 in the leading direction (usually considered negative from a generator perspective) and it can also be less than 1.0 in the lagging direction (usually considered to be positive from a generator perspective).

Most generators are rated for a particular power factor in the lagging direction, and when you understand the generator reactive capability curve(s) things will become a lot clearer.

There have been lots of posts here on control.com about generator reactive capability curves and the effects of operation outside of the reactive capability curve, so use the 'Search' feature (it's conveniently hidden in the upper right corner in the band at the top of the page), and you'll probably want to check out the Help for the Search feature (because it's not really intuitive). Try and get past some of the "animated" responses (the ones with a lot of exclamation points) and

Your generator is provided with a Reactive capability Curve, which graphically depicts the limits of active power, reactive power & p.f while operating the generator. Find it provided with the generator at your site to operate your generator in a controlled manner.

It's always better to run a generator at higher p.f irrespective of leading or lagging. The higher the power factor value you run your generator at, is the better for your generator.

So, it's better that you don't run your generator with such lower power factor (i.e. 0.6 p.f) which producing higher VArs. May it be leading or lagging. If, you are not paid for the VArs you produce (lead or lag), or you don't have any contractual agreement regarding VAr or p.f, the BEST is to run it at 1.0 PF with 0 VAr.

Too high lagging VAr (lower PF value) generates too much heat in the generator which has detrimental effects on the generator. And too high leading Var (lower PF value) can damage your generator seriously.
