We are unable to set Modbus parameters and don’t really know what we are doing. How can we learn more? Our system is simple we are using an L 200 Hitachi Variable Frequency Converter to control a motor. This is done via a C++ program and a converter ( RS 232/ 485) between PC and the L 200. Where can we learn more?

I suggest you get a copy of the white paper describing the MODBUS protocol in detail. That way you can check your C++ program.
