power flow in a national grid

consider a huge national grid, i.e. the frequency levels are more or less fixed, now when a synchronous generator produces power how does this power go to the main bus when it is known that voltage flows from higher potential to lower a level, and further how does this voltage, when added to the bus add to the main grid when it's voltage is more or less the same?
