Hi fellow forum users,

I am new to the forum and would appreciate anyones help with my problem.

I am an Electrical Engineer from Australia and been given the task of researching a problem we are having with one of our generators.

The generator has a type of rotor earth fault telemetry unit installed on the rotor's exciter end named "Rotoguard". The generator itself is a 51MVA Alstom unit and my understanding is that the rotoguard instrument is a third party piece of equipment that was sold to OEM's to be installed (Roughly around 1989).

I have been looking for information on the instrument but have had no success. Is there anyone that can help me with some background information on this piece of instrumentation ("Rotoguard") or anyone with any prior experience with it in the past.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Kosta

Deep breath and hang on )

Its a long story, but the rotorguard telemetry unit was developed by service unit (CSD) arm GEC machines in Rugby. Following a merger GEC became ALSTOM and eventually the 'contracting' sector was sold as an MBO along with CSD (then known as ESL) and the company re-branded a Cegelec.

Then, in 2007 the UK arm of Cegelec, still really CSD, was sold in an MBO and re-branded as quartzelec uk ltd.

Quartzlec have shared IP rights, along with Converteam (what was GEC large machines) to machines manufactured by ALSTOM at Rugby, and its legacy companies (AEI, EE, BTH) upto 1997.

Still with me ?

Quartzelec continue to support and develop the rotoguard telemetry unit. I am the design manager for the company and I'll be delighted to help out; please drop me a e-mail and I will send you out copies of the manual and support you with any questions.
