Hi;

I want to know what effects of start stop on a gas turbine life. A control guy give 25 start stop to find the fault. I said every start stop reduce the engine life about 80 to 100 hours. Am i right? Please i need some explanation or any article in which this topic covered;
Regards

You stated "...A control guy..." required 25 starts/stops to resolve a "fault." But, you didn't state what "the fault" was, or why it was necessary to start and stop the unit to find "the fault", nor did you state over what time period these 25 starts/stops took place. You didn't say what the unit was (Frame size; type of drive (generator or mechanical)), nor what type of control system the turbine has. While it may seem excessive, depending on a number of factors it may have been necessary to start and stop the unit to achieve desired operation after resolving "the fault".

Some "faults" turn out to be improper perceptions about how turbines should operate, and some "faults" are difficult to observe if they are intermittent in nature. Some control systems do not have very good troubleshooting capabilities (they can't record data values for analysis, for example) and so collecting information about a "fault" can be very difficult.

If you have a GE-design heavy duty gas turbine you should obtain a copy of GER-3620 to learn about the effects of various operations, including starts and stops, on gas turbine parts life. I believe you'll find your statement is somewhat excessively high, and, again, this really depends on the machine and other factors (particularly if any of the "stops" were emergency trips).

In any case, if "the fault" was resolved and the unit was returned to reliable operation isn't that the desired output of any fault-finding, regardless if it's conducted by a "control guy" or some other technician?

And to answer your next question, no; I don't have a copy to email you, even if you'd provided your email address to send a copy to. Perhaps, if you provide your email address some other kind control.com reader will see fit to send you a copy of GER-3620.
