USB to RS-232 conversion

I need a circuit diagram of some sort for a USB to RS-232 converter. Individual data sheets or spec sheets for USB and RS-232 ports separately can also be useful.

That's a little like asking for a VHS to MPEG converter circuit.

I'm not a USB expert but I know there's more involved than just a circuit.

It's not like RS-232 to RS-422 conversions.

Surely you can buy such a thing cheaper than you can make it.

But they're probably based on a USB slave processor with another serial port built in (and it may well support more than one RS-232 port).

Spec sheets for both USB and RS-232 ports are abundant in web-land.

try googling for them

P.S.

I saved you the trouble. Here's one for $22.00: http://www.vpi.us/usb-serial.html

(one of the first google hits for: USB RS-232 serial port converter)

It's not worth heating up a soldering iron at that price.
