Mercedes-Benz Revs Up Automotive Testing with Beckhoff Measurement Tech

Mercedes-Benz tunes up its vehicle development and test & measurement capabilities using advanced EtherCAT measurement terminals and PC-based automation from Beckhoff.

Case Study Overview

Mercedes-Benz modernized four chassis test benches at its Mercedes Technology Center with system integrator DynoTec, replacing aging control technology with an open, modular Beckhoff platform. PC-based control, EtherCAT and high-precision ELM-series measurement terminals now integrate automation and data acquisition, helping engineers precisely analyze suspension, kinematics and vehicle dynamics while comparing roughly 90 parameters against digital twins.

The system synchronously acquires up to 136 measurement channels at 5 ksps each—680 ksps in total—along with 36 output channels and approximately 300 diagnostic channels. Decentralized measurement technology also improved signal quality, eliminated one of five control cabinets and reduced downtime by more than 30% during the final test-bench conversion.

See how integrated measurement and control technology can accelerate your next project with scalable DAQ.
