Banner’s New AC Voltage Sensor for Equipment Monitoring

March 05, 2024 by Damond Goodwin

Banner’s latest IIoT monitoring system comes in the form of an AC voltage monitoring sensor, capable of providing users with real-time power monitoring for their industrial equipment.

Banner Engineering recently announced the latest addition to the Snap Signal portfolio: an AC voltage sensor labeled the S15C-UT460-MQ-1.

The sensor works with Banner’s Snap Signal infrastructure by providing another useful data source for machine monitoring. The AC voltage monitor can plug into a Snap Signal network giving users access to more data than before for enhanced machine monitoring.

Banner’s Snap Signal Portfolio

The Snap Signal platform is an overlay network that can take data from different sources around the plant or any type of industrial system and convert the data into a standard protocol for easy consumption. This helps manufacturers seamlessly integrate their plant's physical infrastructure into the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to enable metrics like predictive maintenance, machine monitoring, efficiency improvements, and more.

The New S15C Series Sensor

The new S15C-UT460-MQ-1 from Banner Engineering is an AC voltage sensor capable of providing users with valuable data for their cloud-based infrastructure. With ever-expanding IIoT systems and machine monitoring, useful machine data has become an integral part of the industrial world, helping users to get the most out of their equipment.

The sensor works by monitoring the AC power used by any piece of equipment hooked up to it. This gives users valuable insight into equipment power consumption and any changes that occur over time. Changes in power consumption can be useful in predicting costly equipment failures. In addition, power monitoring can help lead engineers and maintenance personnel to any sources of inefficiency that may crop up over time.

Features of the AC Voltage Sensor

Using an AC voltage sensor gives manufacturers valuable insight into the overall health of their plants. The S15C-UT460-MQ-1 features continuous monitoring capabilities giving users access to real-time data and eliminating the need for continuous manual check-up of equipment power usage. Power use monitoring becomes much easier and more efficient with the use of these sensors since the power consumption is continuously being monitored, leading to more accurate measurements with the use of the Modbus RTU interface.

The use of the Modbus RTU interface gives users easy access to view the data with prescaled values. Prescaled data means that the commissioning process can be greatly simplified because users don't have to spend time figuring out how to scale the data making the integration of the system much easier.

Users have the ability to purchase the system as a turnkey power monitoring system with the addition of Banner's Asset Monitoring Gateway with SNAP ID and AC current sensors. The combination of equipment gives users access to a complete power monitoring system without the need for any complicated and often expensive programming.

The plug-and-play ability of the new S15C-UT460-MQ-1 voltage monitor means that users can now add complete power monitoring capabilities to their Snap Signal systems.
