Bosch Rexroth Reinvents Automation With ctrlX Automation

June 14, 2020 by Ben Stepanian

Rexroth, a Bosch company, has been working to simplifiy automation systems for nearly all industrial platforms.

Meeting the expectations of industry 4.0 standards, ctrlX automation solutions can utilize coding programs like python, Linux, and run g-code programs to run machinery or even manage a facility's shop floor.

CtrlX Automation solutions reduce production and service times by up to 50% with the help of its intuitive programming tools. These systems are able to process cross-platform performance and the process taking away much of the difficult programming that would previously be required to have a system perform a task.

Variety of Solutions

Rexroth offers the most advanced and up to date solutions. These novel systems feature consistent performance with a 64-bit multicore CPU which could synchronize more than 200 servo drives at a time. Using Linux as the operating system within crtlX automation systems, developers can effortlessly integrate new programs and apps within the system without interruption of existing programs.

Software and security updates are automated and an IEC 62443 security certification ensures that cyber-attacks are prevented. CtrlX automation already comes prepared to integrate future standards and technology into systems like 5G connectivity and artificial intelligence.

CtrlX Automation systems come with 24/7 assistant services given that any issues arise. Less is more with optimization and minimization of hardware to reduce size and system integration times by up to 50%. For already existing systems, ctrlX allows for compatibility by supporting more than 30 interfaces such as EtherCAT, PROFINET, Io-link, OPC UA, and MQTT. The system is excellent for system enhancements, communication, and working with external infrastructures. Rexroth successfully made a system that will never be rendered obsolete, ctrlX automation is ready to accept pending software for the future. Logistics costs will decrease as well as the time needed for familiarization and engineering.

Cloud-based data, storage, and connectivity are also featured in these products. CtrlX Automation devices are a versatile solution when various programs are being used in a system or if a project needs quick customization to keep running when standardization isn't quite available. Analog, digital, or encoding interfaces are also used for easy connection between systems.

Engineered for Longevity

Systems like the ctrlX core are made to withstand harsh conditions. The core is capable of handling vibrations, various temperatures, and impacts. Ergonomic design allows for ease of module exchange and upgrades. Rexroth successfully made a system that will never be rendered obsolete, ctrlX automation is ready to accept pending software for the future. Rexroth says that its products and systems will be available until 2044.

Award-winning Ingenuity

Rexroth was the recipient of the 2020 German Innovation Award in the machines and engineering category. Another award received was the 2020 Red Dot award for product design. Rethrox has designed their ctrlX Automation products with fewer parts, hardware, and also designed them to minimize dimensions. Software upgrading is now up to 30% more efficient with a user-friendly interface.

CtrlX Automation systems are now available for purchase through Rexroth’s website in their configuration section. Engineers can plan their purchase of a specific system using this tool.
