Carlo Gavazzi Unveils Compact 480W DIN-Rail PSU for Compact Spaces

Carlo Gavazzi Automation has introduced the new SPDL 480W power supply unit, designed for space-constrained industrial applications. With a slim 45 mm housing, up to 95% efficiency, and advanced protections, the PSU is built to perform in harsh environments from -40° C to +70° C. Available in 24 and 48 VDC configurations, it offers flexible voltage inputs, active PFC, and global safety compliance—making it ideal for powering PLCs, sensors, HMIs, and more in industrial control cabinets and OEM systems.

Industrial Performance in a Compact Design

One of the most compact power supply units (PSU) in its class, the SPDL 480W has a housing only 45 mm wide, offering up to 60% reduction in weight and 75% more space efficiency. Offered in 48 and 24 VDC configurations, the new power supply supports various input voltages ranging from 85/90-264 VAC or 120/127-375 VDC. This flexibility enables system integrators to customize the power supply to their specific installation requirements.

The new DIN-rail PSU has a built-in active power factor correction (PFC) to enhance power quality. An LED status indicator ensures quick and easy identification of the operational status for troubleshooting. The new SPDL 480W power supply boasts a high isolation voltage of 3kVAC, offering reliable protection against insulation breakdown and electrical surges.

Engineered for Harsh Industrial Conditions

The compact SPDL 480W power supply is designed for harsh industrial environments with a wide operating temperature range of -40° C and +70° C with over-temperature protection. For the SPDL xx480IR models, the temperature derating feature starts at 60° C, ensuring reliability and the longevity of the power supply in high heat and load conditions without affecting safety and performance.

Besides temperatures, the new PSU features comprehensive protection options to protect both the user and the circuitry. These features include short circuit protection, overcurrent protection, and overvoltage protection, which prevent damage to the PSU from excessive load and shield users and electronics from the effects of voltage spikes. The new PSU features CE Certification and meets the UL 61010 safety standard, ensuring compliance with global safety needs.

A Stronger Compact PSU Portfolio

According to Carlo Gavazzi's International Product Specialist, Matteo Pinciroli, the new SPDL 480W PSU complements the company's existing PSU offerings and is an alternative to the SPD series. The new PSU achieves improved efficiency levels of up to 95%, resulting in less energy waste and lower heat generation.

Regarding application, the SPDL 480W PSU is ideal for use in industrial control cabinets to power components such as PLCs, sensors, actuators, human machine interfaces (HMIs), relays, and contactors. Due to its compact DIN-rail size, the PSU is also suitable for OEM applications where space saving is critical.
