Three Control Automation Day Sessions You Just Can’t Miss

March 21, 2024 by David Peterson

Join the experts as they present robotics theory on topics including 3D vision applications from Keyence, robot motion and precision from Mecademic, and developing open control from Arduino Pro.

In case you’ve missed the memo, Control Automation Day is back for the third year, coming up just around the corner on Tuesday, March 26th!

There will be a total of three keynote presentations and eight live sessions, covering a fairly wide range of topics around the world of industrial robotics. Here are a few of the most recent additions to the show, presenting fun, engaging topics for engineers and enthusiasts alike.

Mecademic: Comparing Precision and Accuracy

1:00 pm PT / 4:00 pm ET

Robot motion is a fine dance between speed and the ability to repeatably land on the correct target. In the real world, we can’t have an infinitely high speed with infinitely precise motion, but some applications demand more of one than the other.

Mecademic live session

Mecademic’s specialty is the small, yet incredibly detailed work in the fields of electrical assembly, optics, medical, pharma, and others. The small robots must be able to meet rigorous demands in specifications. Ilian Bonev, the co-founder of Mecademic, will present the difference between both precision and accuracy, and explain how this relates to repeatability to elevate throughput, efficiency, and uptime for production.

Arduino Pro: Robot Control With Open-Source Roots

2:00 pm PT / 5:00 pm ET

The world has known the name of Arduino for many years, but the Arduino Pro brand has launched a new set of devices over the past few years, paving the way for industrial automation projects to grow and thrive.

Robot controllers must be able to handle many tasks simultaneously, including multi-axis motion, vision, communication with peripheral devices, and condition monitoring to sense operating conditions. As the industry grows, it becomes more important to understand various tools and methods to control complex robotic motion without being contstained to traditional devices.

Arduino Pro Live Session

Learn from Jesse Masters, a solutions architect from Arduino Pro, as he chats with Dr. Roby Lynn, the CEO of R2 Labs, a company that has leveraged Arduino products to create just this type of robot controller for application across many industries.

Keyence: Giving Eyes to Industrial Robots

10:00 am PT / 1:00 pm ET

If you’ve been to a trade show or kept in tune with industry news over the past year, vision systems are the talk of the town. It’s easy to find working demonstrations, but when was the last time you saw the full implementation of a 3D robotic vision application for yourself?

Keyence live session

3D vision for bin picking is one of the more common applications, and the difference between 2D and 3D capabilities in the camera systems are instrumental for this type of task. Learn from Rob Halasz, an expert in the setup of 3D vision systems from Keyence, as he explains the process and provides a demonstration of the setup and calibration of an actual industrail system.
