RTD Failure - Sheath split
Dave, no argument that vibration causes element failures. The vibration failures I've met have been failures several days after installation on forge hammers (whomp, whomp, whomp where the ground shakes every whomp) where the element failed but the sheath was in fine shape. Conversion to...

RTD Failure - Sheath split
What makes a Pt100 RTD subject to vibration failure is the relative delicate nature of the very, very thin platinum wire being shaken around by vibration. The result of vibration is a broken wire, an open circuit and no means of making a temperature measurement and getting a valid process...

RTD Failure - Sheath split
Your observations of the failure of thermowell seem to point in the right direction. Even 316 SS is not that corrosion resistant for hot salt water. Consider Monel 400 or Inconel 825 for thermowell material. The ID of the bore in the thermowell creates a "slip fit" for OD the element so...

Where can I read about how to handle silicon in an automated process?
There is the element silicon (Si) (a crystal), which is the major element in quartz, and there is polymer or compound called silicone. I suspect you're looking for properties of silicone, not silicon.

I'm using a PLC to output a 4-20mA signal. I can read the signal in series but not parallel like other signals I've worked with. What's up?
Without a diagram, I am not sure what you mean by 'connected parallel'. No, a milliampmeter cannot read current correctly when connected in parallel because some of the current will not flow through the meter. A milliampmeter always needs to be in series to produce a valid reading. When you...

I'm using a PLC to output a 4-20mA signal. I can read the signal in series but not parallel like other signals I've worked with. What's up?
When there is a voltage difference between AO (-) and AI (-) that voltage difference will drive a current that is called a common mode ground loop. If an active load powered by a line voltage (an analog input powered by a line powered device) is put across an active, powered analog output, then...

16 bit Resolution Control Logix
0-30480 counts is likely to represent 0.0-20.0mA, with 6096 counts being 4.0mA. polarity typically uses the high order bit for bipolar A/D's.

Level Transmitter to Measure the level of Wastewater in a Sump Tank
Bubblers are still used for sump level measurement, where compressed air bubbles out of a vertical pipe in the sump. The pressure of the air in vertical pipe needed to create bubbles equals the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid in the sump. A pressure transmitter measures the air pressure in...

Auma actuator, valve didn't run in remote mode, what is the problem?
>was configured as Dry contact. Are these supposed to be wet type? Depends on the what incoming discrete signal is? Is the incoming discrete signal dry contacts, like relay contacts with no voltage connected to either contact? Or is the incoming signal a DC or AC signal that has a voltage...

Microswitch dump controllers
Is there a relay between the microswitch and the dump valve (microswitch drives the coil of the relay, relay contacts drive the dump valve) or the does the microswitch power the dump valve directly?

Device for manual "takeover" of 4-20mA signal
A 4-20mA repeater/isolator mirrors the input value on the output value. But I've never seen a repeater with an auto/manual function. A standard, stand-alone "PID" controller with - a 4-20mA control output that the PID normally controls in auto mode - an auto/manual function that allows for...

Recommend temperature controller
PMA's terminology is just different enough that I'm not sure whether that model does what you need to do. The Honeywell UDC 2800 will do what Honeywell calls duplex operation, also called Heat/Cool with heating on one side of the setpoint, and cooling on the other side of the setpoint (with an...

>In Modpoll software i select range of modbus addresses from 200 to 340 That attempts to read 140 registers which exceeds the Modbus maximum limit of registers-per-read-transaction of 125 registers (quantity of 250, 16 bit bytes). Slave/server devices can have their own more limited maximum...

Energy Analyzer interfacing via Modbus protocol
So you read (4)0201 through (4)0221 with Function code 03, in one transaction and you get good data in all the registers. Then, in a separate transaction, you read (4)0271-(4)0282 and you notice that (4)0201 through (4)0221 has changed? Where did you 'put' or move the data from (4)0201...

auma actuator local control push button not responding
I'll bet it's the switch behind the push button actuator that's the real problem, not the pushbutton itself. I doubt that replacement switches are available from Auma, but they're the ones to tell you that, not me. It's more likely that Auma sells the entire display unit as a spare part...
