Gas Turbine Flame Detector
Are the flame detectors new (different) models, or just new detectors of the same model previously used? Is there something you are doing differently when testing them? Is the tester new or different? is the person performing the test new at the testing?

MOOG IGV F8 Fault
Mr. Lee, Are you referring to the actuator on the IGVs for the gas turbine axial compressor IGVs? Or the IGVs on the driven compressor (the one driven by the gas turbine’s LP shaft)? GE typically uses a hydraulic actuator and electro-hydraulic servo valve to position the gas turbine axial...

Speed stagnation in 90% at the startup of GE5002C turbine
Curious _One, The two-shaft machine drives some kind of compressor—probably a centrifugal one. But I do agree—the site dodged a bullet they might not avoid next time. If it can’t be forced, re-calibrate it and if that doesn’t work, well, replace the servo. Oh, and downloading and rebooting is...

Speed stagnation in 90% at the startup of GE5002C turbine
I'm struggling to understand what FSRMIN has to do with not reaching 14HS. I'm also struggling to understand the safety implications of forcing 14HS below 95% speed.... It doesn't seem wise. Is it possible the second-stage nozzles are not operating correctly--or that the LP load is excessive???

Synchronization of Multiple Generators onto the Grid
skyimk, I also want to mention that many STG's used in combined cycle applications operate differently than most other STG's--because they are "captive" to the CTG's and their loads and exhaust heat. Many STG's used in combined cycle applications just open their control valves wide open after...

Synchronization of Multiple Generators onto the Grid
In my experience, the length of the pulses used to change speed reference (and therefore load) are one of the most important things to be “tuned.” All grids have machines synchronized to them and while many have the same percentage droop regulation setpoint and different load capabilities...

Mark VI - VCMI Board Replacement
Have you tried IC Spares (ic-spares.com)? Or Gas Turbine Controls (callgtc.com)? Those are two of the best of the group of direct third-party suppliers.

Wheelspace in Gas Turbine
makarand, You didn’t attach the MS-Excel file. You didn’t say when this problem started (such as after a maintenance outage). You didn’t say how long it has been since the last maintenance outage. The internal cooling passages of GE-design heavy duty gas turbines are not as simple as...

Synchronization of Multiple Generators onto the Grid
skyimk, Hundreds of turbine-generators of all sizes and types are synchronized together on islanded grids in many locations around the world every day. How? Because they are adhering to basic AC (Alternating Current) fundamentals for synchronous generators. You would need to tell us quite a...

Why does the wheel speed sensor has 60 teeth?
The speed sensor doesn't have teeth. The speed sensor is usually a magnetic pick-up of some type (active (powered) or passive (unpowered)) that senses changes in magnetic density--such as occusr when a piece of metal passes by the speed sensor followed by a lack of metal. This creates pulses...

I can not understand compressor stall phenomena
While similar, centrifugal compressors have different operating characteristics than axial compressors, though some of the same terms are used for both (such as the infamous surge and stall). I think that multi-stage centrifugal compressors are more susceptible to surging and/or stalling.

AGM batteries constantly charged. Can it damage them?
I didn’t forget/haven’t forgotten. Since you can’t check specific gravity, if the group were to fail the run-down test the you would have to separate the batteries and measure the individual voltages and maybe run an individual load test of some sort to see how long it takes to reach the lowest...

GE MarkVIe (Migration) - IONet Timeout \ Watchdog Protection Trip
lo-47, Thanks for the information! SIMPLEX does not have any redundancy. Is the turbine a gasser or a steamer? SEU, huh? I’m going to add that TLA (Three-Letter Acronym) to my repertoire. Might prove handy one of these days. (As is said, “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them...
