Zone 2 - I.S Barrier
Doubled checked the facts... Zone 1: An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation; Zone 2: An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation and, if it occurs, will only exist for a short time. In my opinion very...

Zone 2 - I.S Barrier
Yes you do need some form of protection, and an IS barrier is the easist retro-fit. I would also find out why a barrier isn't already there - maybe 'Zoning' is recent and flowmeter existing. There are a few major makes of barrier - Pepperl+Fuchs' Phoenix MTL If this is an existing site then I...

10 turn potentiometer with counting dial for 22 mm hole?
RSComponents sell Bourns and have done for years. Because of the size it's impractical to have screw terminals - is soldering such a problem ? https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/?searchTerm=potentiometer+10+turn

Downloading program to Logix 5561 with Kinetix 6000 Drives
It would have been easier to answer your 2 points in one thread instead of spreading over 2. Identical machines will probably have the same program, but invariably identical machines can be slightly different which is reflected in software; and drive configurations. You have not mentioned...

Options missing in "controller organizer" in RSLogix 5000
I cannot see attached picture; nor stated which PLC you have. However if you have SLC5 series PLC and uploaded the program, which is relatively easy to do, it won't have program comments or tags, as these are stored on computer in the originating project files. The controllogix series being a...

RSLogix Advice?
The only other snippet of information is that the 'key' was normally transfered to computer hard disk {HD} for general use, and only transfered back to floppy disc again if changing computer or finish using the software. Anyone interested may well ask whether the key is back on the floppy disc...

powered by DCS side or powered by field
There must have been times in our career when an Analogue doesn't work because 2 power supplies are providing loop power, or even better when neither 'end' uses their power supply with the best of intentions that the other end is [supplying power]. The same also applies to digital signals, so...

RSLogix Advice?
Thank you for contacting this forum. I'm sure someone here would love to purchase what you have. RS is software for 'Rockwell' equipment; with RS lite being a reduced version of RSlogix 5000 and the floppy discs being 'key' discs for this licenced software. Quite what the bundle you have is...

What Type of servo motor would work well for a pop-up target?
A great deal depends on the size and fixings of your target, A stepper motor with drive circuit [with or without gears] I believe would give what you have in mind. Direct gears instead of worm drive would give a faster response; and there are various manfacturerers with ready made kit...

https://www.dodax.co.uk/en-gb/electronics-computer/serial-cables/moxa-uport-1150-serial-cable-silver-usb-type-a-db-9m-dp4EA0TGTGJE3/? Have you made sense of the: Software selectable RS-232, RS-422, 4-wire RS-485, and 2-wire RS-485. I seem to recall the 9070 is RS-232. Have you a driver for the...

Flow 'seems' to increase with Filter Choked SGT 700
We have yet to reply, as it seems you have answered your own point - or have you ? Now I have logged on and see your diagram, your statement: The Dp.fan has a tripping on value falling below a certain value thus indication the flow is insufficient for ventilation. appears incorrect. And...

Safety butterfly valve to shut off a penstock fl
As a general rule, protection against overflow is achieved by an electrically/pneumatically controlled valve, protection against overpressure is achieved by a Slam Shut Valve [or similar] which cannot be reset except by a manual operation and performed at the valve premises...

2oo3 versus Middle of Three Selection
You seem to be chasing your own tail here. If you don't know how the Honeywell trips were implemented then I would try to find out. I would want to see the source code for MIDOF3 to see exactly what it is doing. If it's not available then as a safety feature it would be rejected and would...

MCBs Issue
What things I should investigate more? I'd be more concerned why a circuit is taking 2.4Amps through a 2Amp MCB.... Which is wrong - exessive current or underated MCB.

2oo3 versus Middle of Three Selection
Very Interesting Are any of these sites COMAH rated: and have any related projects been rated to SIL3, or subject to HAZOP reviews. If so you [the main contractor] should have historic records of where and why the Honeywell median system was used - if not then the QA Manager needs to be...

2oo3 versus Middle of Three Selection
Looking at Honeywell MIDOF3 algorithm, it is, with the best of intentions, incompatible with any possible SIL rating, unless Honeywell can provide a great deal of supporting evidence [over the years] that it is almost 100% failsafe, and can provide mathematical evidence of it's fail-to-danger...

2oo3 versus Middle of Three Selection
You clearly have not understood my posting. From what I recall of the 'Triplex PLC' configuration, each i/p is configured into 2oo3, so the answer to your point: question is how do we implement this trip function in the ESD. is simply seen as one ESD trip signal and programmed in accordingly...

2oo3 versus Middle of Three Selection
Unless my understanding of ' middle of three' is incorrect - your use of a median in this application would be flawed. The concept of 2oo3 is to take the three pressure transmitter results to provide your high high pressure trip. It is only when one [of the three] appears to give an erroneous...

Capacitance of Intrinsically Safe Cables
You've now reminded me of self-certification back in the 1990's of an explosion-proof interface box. It looked right with the correct materials, shape, 'knockouts', no manufacturing defects etc. but you had to check every possible scenario where it would be used. You had to be sure before...

Capacitance of Intrinsically Safe Cables
It's nothing to do with incompetence or due diligence - it is about forwarding IS designs to your client where each device originates from a different manufacturer. While each may have there own disposition, it is for the design company to be absolutely certain what they are selling is IS...
