S7 400 Redundancy Failure of Automation Processors During Switchover
I understand the S7-400 in dual redundant mode takes around 25-30mins to synchronise with it's partner to achieve hot standby. So if you have cut supply to the master, restored power then cut power to the other S7-400 in a fairly short space of time, you will lose control.

New to PLC's and Have a Project
This is not so much about PLC programming but designing a system having worked out what is required. Then making sure the equipment you have will achieve that or cost in additional bits and pieces if it doesn't. Are HMI screens going to be sketched out or make them up as you go along? Is...

Panel Layout
Very much in agreement with yourself - but is fairly subjective depending on circumstance. "... the argument here is that since the VFDs produce heat, put them at the top to isolate the heat near the top" And where does the heat go or does it just get hotter! Large control transformers...

Home Automation Systems
It's very much of how far do you want to go it terms of staying safe. The Home Alarm Guard Response is very interesting but will not stop forced entry or damage to property. Security cameras are readily available. I use a time lapse camera mindful of the fact it will not necessarily identify...

S7-1200 Remote Commisioning
As far as I am aware Siemens do not have the equivalent remote access kit as Netbiter. If you want remote access which is relatively secure then why not use what is offered here. I would be interested to know if you would accept liability for remote commissioning any control system and the...

SGT400 TRIP and PMS issues
Clearly you have a changeover and maybe maintenance problem. Firstly the load shedding needs to be sorted to prevent future consequential failures. Lubrication Oil pipe vibration could be caused by numerous reasons and needs to be checked out locally (point 5). Liquid to Gas Changeover...

STEP7 Professional V13; FB Declaration Static: Data type TON Not Allowed
We are interested to know too. Unless I'm mistaken you are using engineering software in the TIA (Totally Integrated Automation) Portal.. Your mistake maybe that you've taken an FB from an archive which is built from S7 v4/v5.5. Can I suggest you open a new FB then cut and paste code...

Trend Problem in WINCC
It sounds as though the print command has created a screen snapshot which then freezes. What is the printer configuration?

Siemens HMI Restore
If they are computer based then probably the easiest way is to re-image: that is to re-install the operating system.

Electromagnetic Flow Meter Not Influenced by Reynolds Number?
It was a few years ago, but there was a similar incidence of turbulence where the manufacturer was brought in. The contractor with the best of intentions has purchased the then new digital range of flowmeter which we could not get to work correctly. It transpired that the wastewater had the...

Electromagnetic Flow Meter Not Influenced by Reynolds Number?
Having worked for many years in the Water industry, the Reynolds Number is not of particular interest to control engineers. The only time it was of particular interest was a case of excess turbulence in a flume where the flowrate was being measured. A Fluid dynamics expert was brought in to...

NEMA 4 Enclosure Installation Best Practices
Nema 4 rating is maintained on enclosures, indoor or outdoor for bottom entry by gland plates and every cable entering being glanded off. As stated above the enclosure should be on a plinth. If you can't obtain one - have one made to fit. Cables leaving the enclosure through the concrete...

Creating Tags - 3500/42M Proximitor Module
It would appear you can, however why would you want to? Adding a prefix or suffix would separate off the same signal into presumably separate processes.

Simoreg 6RA70 Control Problem
Fortunately I'm not very good at mind reading - It's not clear what you are doing or trying to achieve. We take it there is a variable speed drive (vsd); Simoreg6RA70 appears to be a software component on a vsd; and somewhere there is a turbine within a water related test rig. That apart -...

Screen Resolution with wincc 6.2
It would appear you haven't the resolution on the monitor. This should be at least 1280 x 960. If not then change the monitor/display. Also possibly upgrade to WinCC 7.3.

Using SIL-2 Devices in SIL-3 Loops
What do you define as 'lower SIL capable' and 'SIL2 level transmitter'. IEC-61508/11 standard is for site overall funtional safety requirements by defining 'safety intrumented systems' (SIS). It does not define individual pieces of equipment with a rating since, if you undertake these...
