Repairing of MARK VI control modules
There are a few businesses that do repair of the parts. However, I would not repair, but rather buy new material. I know it can be expensive, but repaired parts do not come with the same reliability. Also, what version of ControlST do you have? That would make a difference on what parts you...

Derivative Action
I only work on Gas Turbine Power plants and DCS projects. I have never used derivative gain. There is too much fear in the transmitter noise that could affect the derivative. You can get the proper tuning needed with just P and I. Derivative has no use in slow processes. It is only really...

Mark VI Trip Log Question
Kim, Any chance you can post a screenshot of the errors you are getting on workstationST? if you go to the bottom right hand corner of the windows screen...in the desktop tray, there is a small "ST" symbol. It is either blue or orange depending on your version. Right click on the Icon...

Markvie PDIO Module Failure
The PDIO packs (IS220PDIOH1A/H1B) are interchangable with the following terminal boards: IS200TDBSH2A/H4A/H6A/H8A IS200TDBTH2A/H4A/H6A/H8A The IO pack can be used with any of the TBs. The sticker was most likely put on by a reseller who either didn't know or was trying to make it easier...

GE Control ST Software Version
You can not downgrade the version of toolbox to fit an older system. In short I would not change your running system and would bring the offline/separate system up to speed. You should get all of your systems on the same version of 5.04. It is not too tough to do, depending on your system...

Loop Tuning and Optimization
That is a good question. I have never used ProTuner, but ExpertTune is 'OK'. It helps you get the basics of a loop in order to tune it. However, I think all tuning software it very limited. It is very particular on the data sampling and can be somewhat difficult to setup, if you do not know...

HRSG Economiser
Hameed, this is an interesting question. On this board, most folks seem to be controls experts and not necessarily process experts. However I will give my 2 cents on this question. I am not sure what you would pressurize the Economiser with. If you pump water into the economizer, you...

Mark VIeS Virtual Controller Pcode Error
Isulamu, I would double check the Simulator and Toolbox version to make sure they are compatible. Also, I would changed your controller type to UCSBS1A (if you have a later version of toolbox). It looks like the simulator is having problems with some specific type of logic. Try to delete it...

Control System Upgrade
qhogan1 Good comments from CSA. I would also add on a few more things. Note: I am big advocate of Mark VIe. I think there is so much capability in the system, and I blame the requisition teams not fully capitalizing on all that Mark VIe has to offer. * I think it is important to try...

Profibus DP to Modbus RTU Gateway
PT, what control system are you using? most of the time, you will have to bring it through the IO system, then the Controller. You could probably use a gateway in the controller or maybe up through the HMI. Max

Problems Accessing Configuration Management System (CMS)
Faris, it sounds like you are using the version 4.7. That does have the older CMS, so you have the older version. I am not sure where you are on your troubleshooting steps, but if Demigrog's suggestion doesnt work...i’d try below. my memory is hazy on this, but these steps should...

Mark VIE DCS Configuration
What version of Toolbox do you have? if you have a version after 4.0, you can use "logic builder" logic blocks to write some code, and you can tie this into the Force On, Force Off, Trip overide pins. This will display automatically on the cimplicity screens. Max

DCS Systems for Balance of Plant
One last piece of advice...Look at the ENTIRE cost of the project. Don't just compare PLCs with DCS. Many people compare just the hardware costs when evaluating systems. There are a lot more 'gotchyas' when only looking at hardware pricing. i.e. * PLCs usually require marshaling and DCS...

Hyper Terminal Configuration for UCSBH3A
Suraj, It is very very very very unlikely that you will need to telnet into the controller to reset it. However, I was confused, because you said that you replaced the internal flash. I do not believe that the UCSB had access to replace the internal flash cards. Only the UCSA was able to do...

DCS Systems for Balance of Plant
Achraf, again, I will preface that I am biased for the Mark VIe. However, if it was my plant, I would want the entire plant to be 1 control system...if this was possible. There are benefits to having 1 supplier, 1 platform of training, 1 set of spares, & 1 set of HMI screens for a facility...

GE Mark VI as DCS for the Whole Power Plant
Achraf, Some folks above made a comment about getting in contact with the GE salem team and a list of DCS Mark VIe plants. I am happy to help with both if needed. I used to work for GE's automation business for 9 years, so I know the right people to talk with. Let me know. Reach out to me...

DCS Systems for Balance of Plant
Achraf These are good questions, but before you can answer what is best, you need to define what you system is: 1) Are you controlling a full power plant with various sections or are you operating only a small section of the facility? 2) How many I/O count? 3) What are you...

GE Mark VI as DCS for the Whole Power Plant
Achraf, Good question. I will agree with some of the comments above. GE has been doing Mark VIe ICS plants since 2008. However, they have been Doing Mark VI GT's since the late 1990s. There are ~2000 installed GTs with Mark VI. ~1500 installed GT's with Mark VIe. ~200 installed BOP/DCS...
