Calculation of AC Motor Power
Baig... if you are only concerned about the motor loss, and not the driven-machine loss, then 20% is way too high. If you are interested in a more realistic value, then please provide the motor's nameplate Hp or kW, its rated voltage, and its rated speed or number of poles! Regards, Phil Corso

As voltage decreses, amps decrease. opposite of Ohm's law. How ?
Manuel... the response you observed is correct for a resistive load because I = V/R! If a constant kVA load, like a running motor, then the current increases as voltage decreases, and vice-versa. Regards, Phil Corso

Generator fault
Namatimangan08... If you are implying that Abbas' breaker closing was an out-of-phase closure, then you are wrong! The trip occurred 30 sec later! The indication, at least to me, is that synchronizing power had not increased (faulty governor?) thus causing the trip. I believe the delay, if...

Krishna... the simplest procedure is to use the the Y-D impedance transformation. Because formulas tend to upset some of Control.Com readers, contact me for the method. Regards, Phil Corso (cepsicon[at]AOL[dot]com)

transformer parallel operation
Tim... your question can't be answered because you left out "stuff!" What about their capacities, impedances, and no-load voltages. Capacity and Impedance influence their "sharing of load" capabilities, while no-load voltage differences affect circulating-current magnitude. X/R ratios have...

Sizing grounding transformer connected for delta side of Generator transformer when Generator circuit breaker is open
Seema... disregard my earlier question. I misunderstood '525' value. To be clear about your requirement: 1) You want a dis-connectable grounding-source on the 23kV system remaining between the GSU's delta-winding and the CB when the CB is open? 2) Furthermore, please confirm that Unit-Xfmr...

Tertiary winding of the VT should be delta connected for Gas turbine generators
Gitesh... my answers were based on your statement, "... this winding is not being used anywhere... " But, now you reveal it is used to feed a voltage supervision relay! Why not ask the person(s) who provided you with the info about it being used for balancing? Regards, Phil

Tertiary winding of the VT should be delta connected for Gas turbine generators
Gitesh… I contacted a couple of CT manufacturers (GE included) but was unable to get a response. I believe the supplier established three secondary windings as a standard. Thus, the delta-winding open-corner configuration is available for those situations requiring a polarizing source of...

Tertiary winding of the VT should be delta connected for Gas turbine generators
Gitesh... strange application! A tertiary-winding is generally used in a 3-phase transformer to overcome thru-fault and zero-sequence problems. With corner-closed, as you observed, then how is the polarizing-voltage source derived for directional ground/earth-fault relays? Are you sure the...
