Implementing a MFT Tripping System
There are regulatory requirements (legal) that require the BMS to be separate from the DCS. For a simple system you could use SIL rated safety relays and signal monitors. But for more complex systems with many permissives, trips and multiple inputs, 2oo2 or 2oo3, you need a proper SIL rated...

Air Gap Between the Thermowell and Temperature Sensor
The OD of the RTD must match the ID of the thermowell. Otherwise the RTD will vibrate and fail. The RTD should also be spring loaded so that it makes firm contact with the bottom of the thermowell for best thermal conductivity. Any temperature sensor vendor can sell you a RTD and head to match...

Machine Monitoring System
A DCS will not usually have I/O with a scan rate fast enough for machine protection or control. Although new DCS's may have fast I/O for that purpose. Honeywell Experion PKS has some fast I/O, with 50 msec. scan time, for machine control and protection. It will not be economic if you have...

Intrinsically Safe
>I have a intrinsically safe positioner in non-hazard area. >if I don't use I.S barrier in the control system what will >be happened? Nothing, it will work as a positioner in a non hazardous general purpose area. Most instruments these days are designed for IS, explosion proof and NEMA 4...

Selecting a Transmitter
Choose a vendor based on years in the business, reputation, range of products offered, warranty, standards that they support and follow, and local support. The modern smart HART transmitters as offered by the main manufacturers such as Emerson Rosemount, E&H, Yokogawa, etc are a bargain. A...

Ex ia Transmitters and Barrier
Most modern transmitters are certified as IS, explosion proof and general purpose NEMA 4. If the transmitter is in a classified area you must use barriers to make the field loop safe or wire it as explosion proof. It will function without barriers but is not safe, you are breaking safety...

RTD or Thermocouple for Bearing Temperature
I think it is: -manufacturers preference and experience -with magnetic fields and induced currents in a motor a RTD is probably better -the right T/C may be more vibration resistant for bearings and also cheaper that's all I got

RTD or Thermocouple for Bearing Temperature
In my experience in a large Utility Plant with large multi-stage high pressure BFW pumps, medium and low pressure pumps; motor winding temperature measurement used RTD's and bearing temperatures used thermocouples.

Potentiometer That Does Modbus RTU Via RS232 or RS485
I assume you have a way to display the timer settings? You could simply use DI's and pushbuttons to increase and decrease the timer settings. Also to start, stop and reset. You could also use a simple text based HMI with pushbuttons. It should be inexpensive. good luck

Transmitter Impulse Tube Insulation
If the service is hot water or steam then a condensate pot should keep the impulse line full of water. You should use a fluid similar to your working fluid so that the density difference is not too large and the impulse line compensation will not be too large. Density in impulse lines may...

TRICONEX PLC Cabinet
I think that you will find that Rockwell ControlLogix, Triconex Trident (SIL3) or Tri-GP (SIL2) and Modicon PLC systems are very similarly priced theses days. A quick call to the Triconex office nearest you with an I/O count will get you a quick budget price. Rockwell with the purchase of...

Automating a Motor Controlled Valve Using a PID Controller
You could use a PID controller with some extra logic to ramp the setpoint from 2 bar to zero over 30-45 min once the pressure reaches 2 bar. Logic and PID could be in a PLC. Or you could use discrete logic in a PLC to start a sequence when the pressure reaches 2 bar to open the valve 1 step...

TRICONEX 3806E AO Card Issues
Triconex dignostic monitor is a tool that lets you gather diagnostic events from a system and save them as a diag file. You can email the file to Triconex, they will decode it and tell you what the errors are and the module/channel. If you have the newer Enhanced Diagnostic Monitor it will...

Honeywell Communication Protocol
Please clarify your application. Internally I have no idea. Another post provided some info. The HPM I/O has it's own interface. TDC has a mux or bridge that talks Modbus for PLC's. If you google it you will find literature. Sign up with Honeywell's Automation web site, they have all their...

Impact of Dust on Electronic Components
The tone or volume pot is a variable resistor that has a contact that moves across a wire or carbon film to vary the resistance. So YES, dirt and dust can affect pots or potentiometers or even rotary switches; anything that has a moving electrical contact and is not sealed. Buy a can of...
