Exhaust Spread
Contrary to popular opinion, exhaust temperature spreads (especially those which occur after maintenance outages!) are not controls-related and can't be fixed with a control system modification. The unit didn't get put back together properly, or there is a large mismatch in fuel nozzle...

Mark V upgrade
If you're worried about parts availability, why would you consider a Mark Ve, since you will still have many Mark V cards (TCQCs, TCEAs, TCEB, TCTG, TCDAs, TCRAs) after the other cards have been removed and the Mark VIe cards installed in their place? About the only compelling reason to...

GT Power reduce
Dear Fai, How long since your last combustion- or hot gas path inspection? Did you borescope your axial compressor to ensure the compressor is as clean as after the previous wash? What is the condition of the inlet air filters with respect to the previous wash? Are they the same inlet...

Starting Device Trip
Thanks for the feedback! It's always good when troubleshooting a problem to understand what changed just prior to the start of a problem, but when doing so one needs to evaluate the likelihood of any event causing the problem being investigated. While HMI upgrades can be complex and difficult...

Detroit Diesel not accelerating
This was first posted to the world on 10 March 2011. It's now 16 March 2011 and apparently the problem still exists, and you haven't been able to tell us if you have verified if there is an analog signal being sent to the DDEC and if so, is it making it all the way to the DDEC input terminals...

Hearing an explosion on start up
> This would scare the sh.t out of me...!! More information required I couldn't have said it better! And my bet is that it (the explosions) have happened more than once, because just once would have been dismissed as a one-off event. And for someone to post this without providing any more...

Effect of MARK-6 Power Failure
Aliya, So many questions!!! And in such a hurry!!! What I said was: >and maybe an Exhaust Temperature High alarm if >the unit is at or near Base Load. When one controller "goes down" while the unit is running, the other two controllers know that those exhaust T/Cs are "lost" and so...

MARK 5 ANALOG NOISE
I'm not familiar with mA input grounding jumpers on the TCQA; only on the TBQB or TBQC. And, I don't presently have access to any Mark V documentation. Please have a look at the Mark V Application Manual, GEH-6195, Appendix D, and tell us which Fig. the jumpers you are referring to are shown.

Atomizing Air Booster problem
I would like to add that coking of the fuel nozzles is definitely a possibility if the unit doesn't run on liquid fuel very often. And, it has been a problem on many Frame 9Es that one or more of the liquid fuel check valves leak in the reverse direction when running on liquid fuel and cause...

Three fuel frame 6 GT
If I understand your query, you want to know if you add gas fuel to a machine that currently burns distillate and crude oil. The answer would be yes; there are many machines that operate and gas, distillate and crude. But it's not inexpensive. And a simple file won't accomplish the task...

Speed biased temperature control
Aliya, I believe if you look closely at the block where TTRXB is written to that unless you are operating a two-shaft machine there is no speed bias being applied to the exhaust temperature control reference.

Mark V core failure
This is interesting. The fact that the same problem is now being experienced on all three cores is indeed very odd. Very odd, indeed. A8 is usually not a good indication, and if the keypads don't work as you say, then something is definitely amiss. I don't presently have access to and Mark V...

CPD drop and Vibration High High Trip
When did this problem start? After a maintenance outage? After an off-line water wash? After a trip from load? Have you verified that the Compressor Bleed Valves are fully open at start-up? Not just from the limit switch indications, but by visually checking the bleed valves to ensure they...

The answer to this question, and others like it, are found in the Mark VI System Guide, GEH-6421, specifically Vol. II. And can also be found in the Toolbox Help file on newer versions of Toolbox.

high lube oil temperature
If this unit has an off-base cooling water module, there is usually an orifice in the piping between the cooling water module and the turbine. It should be shown on the Cooling Water Piping Schematic (P&ID), and it very necessary for proper operation of the system. Is this orifice installed...

The starting scheme and sequencing for a Frame 6FA with a Static Frequency Converter (SFC) and a Frame 6B with a diesel starting means, torque converter, and clutch are very different. So much so as to be incomparable.

Detroit Diesel not accelerating
Have you tried spanking your Detroit diesel to make it behave when it doesn't do what you want it to do? Seriously, when did this problem start? After a maintenance outage? If I recall correctly, there is a 4-20mA output from the Speedtronic to provide a speed reference to the DDEC...
