application of steam to the mass flowmeters

We are using the massflowmeters for accurate slurry dosing flow measurement. After the dosing completion we are steam purging the flowmeter to clean the flowmeter.

We are facing the heavy vibration during steam purging. Can steam purging affect the flowtube functionality or damage it?

If, so, what care should be taken to avoid this? We are using DL200S model of Micromotion for our application. I found no information regarding any vibration limit with this model.

Which models of Micromotion or E&H I can use of single tube that can suit my requirement?

Hi Kamit,

I think you should refer to the design temperature of the flowmeter given on the catalogs. Steam temperature should not exceed the design temperature of the flowmeter. Vibration as such doesn't effect the tube since you are not measuring anything while purging. When the tube vibration reaches its resonance frequency it may break the tube.

Vibration could be one of the biggest problem on Coriolis Flow Meter & request you to discuss with the manufacturer. Why don't you use Doppler Ultrasonic Flow Meter for slurry application as this would be clamp on system without interfering into your process line. You can look in future at Doppler as an better option.

If slurry is conductive, why not think about magnetic flow meters?

KROHNE is supplying magnetic flow meter with custody transfer certificate, accuracy: 0.15% measured value.

Please note that ultrasonic flowmeter is not suitable for slurry application. It's only suitable for clean liquid.

Satish,

Transit Time Ultrasonic is only used for clean liquids where as Doppler based Ultrasonic Meter can be used on dirty liquids & even on slurry.

There are two defined principles in Ultrasonic Flow Meters, most commonly used is transit time though Doppler offers metering on dirty liquids. One has to be very clear about his/her process to select the best suitable meter else use a meter which has a hybrid combination of both the principles.

When you are purging steam through MFT, What is
velocity of steam through tube? Is it beyond the
permissible limits? This is just out loud thinking.
