Can anyone recommend a good book or web site (other than this one) that would provide a well meaning amateur with a simple and undertandable introduction to automation hardware and software?

I've been in the pharmaceutical manufacturing business for over 25 years and whilst automation technology has moved on in leaps and bounds my knowledge and understanding of it hasn't. I'm beginning to feel like a dinosaur!

I work with controls and automation engineers whose conversations now go right over my head. Whilst I don't need to become an expert I would like to know more.

The reason it is empty is that my publisher asked for the files to be taken down. I worked for five years on that book, and while it is good, it is not free.

I have a daughter who is going to college on the proceeds from that book, so I am really quite protective of it.

It is, however, the best one volume reference book for automation issues I could find-- because I worked to make it the one I could use.

So, please don't steal my book.
